THE NEWBORN ITEMS YOU ACTUALLY NEED
So many people will recommend you a bunch of newborn items and it can start to get overwhelming. When I was first pregnant, friends and family members started recommending so many frivolous things. I ended up adding so much to my baby registry (much of which I was lucky enough to receive) and then running out to stock up on the rest. While I'm grateful for the gifts, they just ended up being clutter all over my house. So I've curated a list of my favorite and most used items (minus the obvious stuff like carseat, stroller, crib, etc) , so you can save on money (and clutter) and splurge on items that really matter.
You can continue reading to learn more about why I chose these necessities. If you'd prefer to skip ahead and view the items with a brief description, simply scroll down by clicking the button below.

When I was pregnant with my first child, the Dohm came highly recommended by acquaintances. I had no idea what I needed, and I was grateful someone even recommended a noise machine for me, because I honestly hadn't even thought about needing one. So without even looking twice, I clicked Dohm right onto my baby registry and thought nothing of it.
Then came the day of my baby being home, and after struggling to get him to sleep one night, a lightbulb went off in my head. I grabbed the box out of the nursery closet and plugged in the Dohm. What did it sound like? A fan. It was JUST a fan. Now I'm not knocking the Dohm, it SAYS it's a fan. Maybe it's my fault for expecting more. We ran it all day, and all night, and it never gave out on us, but it just did, well, nothing for us. The sound machine was way too subtle even on the highest setting. It had no soothing, calming or relaxing effect on my newborn.
I ran to Amazon, typed in sound machine, and picked one I thought was best. This sound machine has 30 sounds including all the shades or brown noise and more, multiple colored light features, volume settings and timers, for HALF the price of a Dohm. We loved it so much we still use it years later. So for us, the alternative Brown Noise Machine was the Winner.
I'm writing this, not to knock DOHM, because again, it does say it's a fan. Maybe that' exactly the sound someone needs, just not us. This is just a quick article for new expecting mothers who don't know what's out there or what the differences are. Maybe like me, they didn't even think about adding a noise machine to their registry until someone hopefully mentions it.
SO WHICH ONE WILL YOU CHOOSE?
I prefer more sound options with my machine and the light is super handy.
The Original white noise sound machine is for me! I love the idea of having the sound of a fan

Instead of having to take off your changing pad cover every day (or sometimes multiple times a day) These handy pads add an extra waterproof layer of protection and are easily taken off and washed. Also a great item to add to your travel bag to put down before changing baby when out.

This is my absolute favorite white & brown noise machine. It has a timer, volume setting, multiple light options (it doubles as a night light) and features 24 different sounds. It's small so it takes up minimal space, and its easy to travel with when you go on vacation.

Absolutely EVERYONE will recommend you a Diaper Genie. Here's the thing: you'll need special bags and those diapers will sit inside FOREVER. The Ubbi Diaper pail uses regular garbage bags, has a closing lid, and you can get those dirty diapers out of there much more quickly.

When you're out in public and your baby drops his or her favorite teether on the ground, terror ensues. Avoid that problem with this easily attachable toy strap. Connect it to the carrier, stroller, shopping cart, you name it. There are so many fun designs to choose from.

If you're on a breastfeeding journey, nipple cream is a must. While there are many creams from clean companies, Lansinoh was my ultimate favorite. It's simple, just one of the most effective ingredients, lanolin, with no other additivess.100% Natural, Ultra Pure, Hypo Allergenic.

You may think it will be a while before your newborn sits up, but it will happen faster than you know. When you’re out shopping, you will be grateful to have a cart cover. It also doubles as a cover for a highchair. These come in cute designs, and I’m a sucker for the added attached toy.
